Dr. Rebecca Clements is here!
Although Rebecca has been considered a lab member since mid last year, we are thrilled to finally be able to officially welcome her to Penn! Rebecca earned her PhD from Harvard University late last year and joins the group as a Penn PORT fellow! The NIH sponsored PennPORT program combines a traditional mentored postdoctoral research experience with a mentored teaching experience at a partnering institution. Keep reading for more on Rebecca!
Rebecca’s dissertation title was: "Molecular requirements for morphogenesis in Plasmodium
falciparum, the human malaria parasite."
Rebecca’s teaching inspiration: “Throughout my life, I've had countless opportunities to fall in love with science, but many people have not had this privilege. I therefore strive to create more of these opportunities for as many individuals as I can. I'm particularly interested in mentoring and teaching undergraduates, because college is a formative time when students begin to make career decisions. I hope to share my love for science and my passion for research with all types of students, but especially those students who are underrepresented in my field, because I believe that diversity sparks innovation. I aim to recruit bright young minds and provide them with a strong foundation for success in scientific research.”
Fun fact: “I'm colorblind! While it sometimes proves challenging, it's so cool to see genetics and biology at work.”
