Māhealani Briones is the youngest lab member!

Māhealani Briones is a Kamehameha Schools-Kapālama high school freshman (!!) from Hawaii who came to our lab for a 7-week experience via the Distance Learning Center STEMPREP program! We are so impressed with Māhea’s time in the lab where she worked with Montserrat Arreguin during her very first wet lab research experience! Great things are in store for Māhea!

Learn more about Māhea :

Where are you from?

I'm from ʻEwa on the island of Oʻahu.

What got you interested in science?

I get frustrated when I don't know everything about anything. Once I hit middle school, the science courses became more difficult to get an A. I had to read my science textbook from front to back. This caused me to become more interested in what I was studying rather than getting a 4.0.

What is a non-science goal you hope to accomplish?

I hope to average at least a 3 on all of my future AP exams!
